Del.icio.us Randomizer

It looks like the folks at del.icio.us are gunning for some of StumbleUpon's turf...

They have recently added a new randomizer feature. Simply follow the URL below to go to a random page that has been bookmarked by at least 10 people:

http://del.icio.us/recent?random&min=10

Pretty neat... its most effective if you drag the link to your browser toolbar, which will turn it into a handy button. Then, just click it when you get bored, or are looking for inspiration. Note: if you're using Windows Internet Explorer, you may need to right-click and select Add To Favorites.

At present, it doesn't look like the randomizer can take any parameters other than the number of people who have bookmarked the site. With a few more features, this could be the next killer app:

  • Allow people to pass in one or more tags. That way I can get a random page about or photography with a URL like this: http://del.icio.us/tag/photography?random&min=10
  • Come up with a personality profile for each delicious user by analyzing their tag clouds, and secretly tag each bookmarked site with these profiles. Then let the randomizer use the profile of the current user to deliver a random page that they are likely to enjoy!

I'm gonna email the del.icio.us guys to see if they'll add these. Keep an eye on the random buttons help page to see where they are going with this...
